The Current
The current drags me deeper down
A dram from the bottle, a pour off the mind
Today, tonight, a constant grind
Keeping time by the pounding in my head
Worn and cracked skin I struggle to shed
With the creaking of a corpse’s joints
I can’t be sorry when I disappoint
And the current drags me deeper down
Have another glass and watch the room spin around
I’m a few minutes late because here there is no time
A process to achieve just fine
Always just out of one more try
Living with both feet on the brink
These voices won’t quiet but I’m trying to think
And the current drags me deeper down
Invisibly and tightly bound
Whiskey makes the water shine
Smoke circles, speaking silent whines
The night is quiet but my head is loud
With no you can’ts and not alloweds
It’s in the way I can’t explain
Always peeling away dead layers within my brain
And the current drags me deeper down
It’s in what I have and haven’t tried
And the current drags me deeper down
It’s in the truth within the lies
And the current drags me deeper down
It’s in the don’t worrys and I’ll be fines
It’s in this pair of boredom torn eyes
It's in the never having both feet on the ground
And the current drags me deeper down
