Redo

Redo

I remember when the sparks fell
it was a hot summer day here
blue sky
no clouds
the fires must have looked even worse
where it was dark
I remember being a child
my first time holding a sparkler
I was mesmerized by that small
sputtering
explosion
then I saw a real firework go off
it was pretty but it frightened me
anyway
back to when the sparks fell
the pieces of heat
looked exactly like those memories
bright and hot
I heard it poured everywhere
all at once
one big storm
spitting burning raindrops
of course the damage
was beyond cataclysmic
there were some survivors
a lot of carpenter ants and cockroaches
a few pit bulls too
no eagles
wolves
or pigs made it
the walnut
peach
and apple trees
are ash
there’s smoke inside every skyscraper
and all those elevators
that I spent so long waiting for
are permanently out of order
