People Haven't Changed

People Haven’t Changed

in 387 BC the Gauls
sacked Rome
even though that fact
is a big bit of history
it really doesn’t mean much
to me
I was reading recently about
when the United States
of America
engaged in the standard practice
of grabbing victor’s spoils
from freshly vanquished Saddam
Hussein’s palace
which he controversially
had built as a replica
right on top
of the ruins of Babylon
I thought it was
wild that we
could sum up that event
on a historical timeline
with the following few lines
in 2003 AD the
United States
of America
sacked Babylon
typing that out
doesn't even feel real
