Crooked Equilibrium

Crooked Equilibrium

You and me, warm
and infinite. Calm
love, sunrise by
the sea. I know
the devil could
send a fast,
violent storm.
Knock me back
down a thorny
mineshaft. I’ve
been dealt damage
which took my vision.
My frame flickered.
I sent plenty
counter-attacks.
Guerrilla in the
swerve. Gathered
a few joyful pebbles.
Worse weight weighs
more. I need concrete.
I’m too scared
to hand you
a plain snapshot.
I’ll share what I have.
I feel awake and
alive. I see now.
I’m here in this
dingy living room.
Houseflies and debris.
Tea kettle whistling
on my coffee table.
An old black
and white movie
playing on the TV.
Suddenly it’s
interrupted by
an emergency
alert. White text
on a black background,
scrolling, read aloud
by a robot voice.

True or not,
I don’t see
what difference
it would make.
The coin has
many faces.
We’re still rotating.
Top-heavy,
scrawny lower half.
Our desire for
a tranquil existence
is so great,
we’ll battle the
most awful
just to chase it.
